The 2014 vintage is sourced from our estate, the Appassionata vineyard, and the Lia’s Vineyard. Nuages (French for “clouds”) also pays homage to the moderating influence of Oregon’s autumn cloud cover, which slows ripening to allow for the long hang time that creates fully developed flavors. Named in tribute to one of winemaker Jay’s favorite gypsy jazz tunes, “Nuages” Pinot Noir is our Chehalem Mountains blend. The combination of these two parcels creates a classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir with vibrant red fruit character, seamless tannins, and dark fruit intensity. It shows the depth and power that are typical of this area, with classic savory and sanguine notes and a seamless acid structure. As in 2013, Floodgate Vineyard’s old-vine Martini selection planted in 1969 creates the base of the 2014 Charm.
